560kg and 640kg Championships

Day two of the Northern Ireland Championships saw Bancran, Derryogue, and Garvagh compete in Glenelly Villas, Draperstown.

Both weights were toughly fought, but Bancran came out on top in both weight classes, winning both finals in two straight ends. Garvagh were runners up in both finals, with Derryogue putting in a strong show with only 7 men. After the round-robin in the 640kg all teams were on even points, so it went to cautions, with Derryogue not making it to the final.

With 5 novice pullers this year, we were delighted to give them a special show of appreciation at the prizegiving presentations. As the governing body for Tug Of War in Northern Ireland, it is part of our remit to encourage new pullers into the sport, and we are delighted to see these young people do so well in their first year.

A special thanks to our judges Davy Wilson, William Montgomery, and Hugh McFetridge who officiated at the Northern Ireland Championships.

We look forward to competing in the British and Irish Championships in Elgin mid August with Garvagh representing the Northern Ireland A team, and Bancran the Northern Ireland B team.
