Armagh, 29.03.05 – The Northern Ireland Tug of War Association proudly presented a cheque for £1100 to Longstone Riding for the Disabled in Armagh, following a successful fundraising initiative.
Over the past six Saturdays, the association’s outdoor teams have utilized Longstone’s indoor horse riding facility for their training sessions in preparation for the British and Irish Tug of War Championships, set to take place on Friday 25th & Saturday 26th July 2025 at The Mall in Armagh. All the teams in training are also aiming to compete in the World Championships in Nottingham, scheduled for 4th to 7th September 2025. In a gesture of appreciation and community support, the teams raised funds through door takings at these events, culminating in the generous donation.
Longstone Riding for the Disabled, which is purely run by volunteers, requires £10,000 a year to operate. Representatives from the Northern Ireland Tug of War Association expressed their gratitude to Longstone Riding for the Disabled for the use of their excellent facilities. The donation will go towards supporting the invaluable work carried out by Longstone, providing therapeutic riding opportunities for people with disabilities.
A special thank you was also extended to the tug of war teams from the South of Ireland who travelled to participate in the training sessions, contributing to the positive atmosphere and camaraderie.
“We are delighted to give back to Longstone Riding for the Disabled, whose dedication to enriching the lives of individuals in our community is truly inspiring,” said Noel Hara, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Tug of War Association. “It has been a privilege to train at their facility, and we are thrilled to contribute to their meaningful work.”
Longstone Riding for the Disabled also expressed their heartfelt thanks to the association for their support, emphasising the significant impact the donation will have on their programs and services.
