
Medals, Memories, and a Magical 4 days at The Tug Of War World Indoor Championships 2023
Northern Ireland welcomed the world to the Tug Of War World Indoor Championships 2023 with an Opening Ceremony that featured friendly faces, Irish Dancers, banter, and bravado. From Wednesday the 8th to Saturday the 11th of March the very best teams from all over the globe came together and battle it out to be crowned the best in their historic sport at the Jim Baker Stadium in Templepatrick.
With teams from China, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Chinese Taipei, The Netherlands, Nigeria, the USA, Northern Ireland, and the Basque Country attending, it was an extremely busy few days, showcasing the very best pullers in the world. Teams competed for the gold, silver, and bronze medals in men’s and ladies’ weight categories.
Local Fermanagh Club, “Country Club” had an extremely successful competition, retaining their world title and getting Gold in the 600kg Open World Champions. Team Northern Ireland had a fantastic competition taking Gold in both the 600kg Closed World Champions, and 560kg Closed World Champions and winning Silver in the 640kg Closed and Bronze in the 560kg Open.
The event was live-streamed to 20,358 people worldwide over the course of 4 days and brought in approximately £300k to the local community. The Northern Ireland Tug Of War Association is delighted to have hosted such a successful and prestigious event and would like to extend their appreciation to all of the sponsors, volunteers, teams, pullers, coaches, and everyone involved in this event, both on the field and behind the scenes.
